She Kills Monsters:
Virtual Realms
“Such an impressive use of zoom. BAD. ASS.” There’s a reason the nerds ruled the A/V Club, and apparently that reason was to mount a virtual, Queer, D&D-themed comedy during a global pandemic. Succubi, kobolds, gelatinous cubes! Our neuro-diverse company found familiarity in this tale of one woman’s quest to understand her reclusive younger sister–who’s just died in a car accident. This adventure into her late sister’s personalized D&D module introduces our level-one hero to her distant-but-loved one’s private world: quirky friends, high fantasy interests, queer sexual orientation, and so much more; it takes +20 strength for her to simultaneously grieve her sister’s death and learn lessons from her clandestine life.

“I am an educator, advocate, and performer who identifies as neurodiverse, and I can say with complete confidence that EPIC Players hit a home run with ‘She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms’. . . . directors Travis Burbee and Gideon Pianko tapped into how timeless and universal a simple story about D&D geeks navigating life transitions can be. The diverse cast of players brought a unique authenticity and sincerity to each their performances. Anyone who sees this production will walk away feeling a deep connection to these characters.”

“I was so impressed by your online production of She Kills Monsters. As a theater professional myself, I know well the challenges involved in creating a virtual production. I was impressed by how all of those challenges were creatively dealt with. More than that, however, I was truly wowed by the performances by each cast member. There was a real level of commitment. I could tell how hard everyone worked and also, how much they all cared about doing a good job. I think this story was a perfect choice---it was clever and funny but also quite poignant and important. I laughed out loud and was also moved to tears. Congratulations, EPIC Players. Well done!”

“I could scream, shout, & cheer as loudly as I wanted! And the only person it disturbed was the dog!”
